“…he shall call upon me and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him…” (Psalm 91:15)
Welcome to today’s Divine encounter. We would focus on the part of the above scripture that talks about honour. As a good student of the Bible, you may have noticed that “glory and honour” were used together at least eight times. The question that comes to mind is “Why is that so?” To answer that question, we must first know the meaning of the word “Glory”. If you go to any or all three of the Hebrew, Greek and English dictionaries, you will discover that the word ‘glory’ means ‘honour’. It also means ‘splendor, riches, character and power’. In other words, glory and honour are one and the same thing.
Therefore, if you seek honour, do not seek it in isolation. Seek Glory with it as honour means respect and goodwill which leads to recognition and glory. The Bible supports this view and that is why in Psalms 8:5 says, “Thou hath crowned him with glory and honour.”
Beloved, you must come to terms with this truth that no human being has control over glory. Some human beings may pretend to, or may be seen to be playing that role but the fact remains that it is only God that can give glory. Sometimes, when we human beings see a little bit of splendor or money, we think that we are the ones in charge. Let me ask the following questions: Look around your town or city, where are those whose names were popular 50 years ago? Where is the power they wielded at that time? Where are their children? See what the Bible has to say concerning that.“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth and the flower thereof falleth away” (I Peter 1:24). Do not be proud or boastful over what you see as glory because God is the only one who has monopoly over glory and honour. That is why glory is promised only to those who know His name, as can be seen from our main text.
