Dear Reader,
I am so glad you made it to this year! Happy new year to you and I am sure you had a wonderful Christmas celebration. I know that if given an opportunity to share our Christmas experiences, we would have a whole lot to say, but thank God for the success of last year and the greatness in this New Year. It is my prayer that this year will be much more fulfilling for you in the name of Jesus Christ!

In this first edition for the year, I would be revealing to you the power in prayer. We all have expectations for the year; you have made resolutions and may have even drawn out plans that should be achieved at some set time. The truth is: Amidst your plans and preparations, except God is in the picture your efforts would be in futility (Psalm 127:1). However, one way you can commit God to that plan is to hand everything over to Him in prayers.

Many erroneously think that in Christianity everything is delivered to you on a platter of gold. No, things don’t just happen, they are made to happen and it comes cheaply in prayers. Prayer is not just an act of communication between you and God, it is a medium through which you surrender your battles to Him and listen to directions as to what steps to take.

When David returned from a war and found out that the wives and children of Israel were taken captive, he enquired of the Lord in prayer. God answered him immediately with vivid steps of what to do to recover all that was lost.

And David inquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all (1 Samuel 30:8).

Prayer is one of the greatest assets of the redeemed. Unfortunately, many either do not take advantage of the tool of prayer, or they approach it wrongly. The truth is: Certain doors might not be opened to you except you engage properly your prayer link with God. Yes, there are many things that are rightfully yours, but you must contend with them in the battle through prayers. It is written:

For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16:9).

Also, just as every strong relationship thrives on effective and regular communication, you relationship with God would only be strengthened through regular and effective prayers. You don’t only pray when you need God to intervene in your affairs, you pray to maintain fellowship with Him. Prayer is not optional for believers because it is our covenant responsibility. That is why God’s Word admonishes that we pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

I have from a very young age drawn my spiritual strength in the prayer room. From the moment I found out that there is power in prayers, I have not ceased to pray daily concerning just anything. I necessarily do not pray for my need, but mostly for the Kingdom and my spiritual growth and this habit has greatly influenced my living today.

The truth is: The devil will not bow to your eloquence or degrees, but he will definitely be defeated by the power at work in you. This power is mostly drawn on the prayer altar. So, if there is any issue you are being confronted with, or is it the goals you have set out for the year, you must understand that your victory can be claimed on the prayer altar.

Therefore, don’t sit there crying and waiting to be pitied, rise up and take advantage of the potent force of prayer and free yourself from any issue that may be challenging to you.

However, prayer would only be a potent force to the redeemed. This means that until you are born again, your prayer will not be effective. The Bible says: The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16). Therefore, it is only the prayer of the righteous man that is full of power.

To be born again means to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour over your life, by confessing and forsaking your sins. Therefore, if you have not done that or you might have probably walked away from the vow you have made to Him in the past. You must say this prayer in faith right away:

Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again!

Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name!
