Topic: Making Wrongs Right!
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
I remember a woman I counselled sometime ago. She had been going through a rough time in her home and was ready to call it quits. In addition to the marital challenges she had, she had no child. After my talk with her, I discovered that she wasn’t legally married to the man she was staying with, and nothing binding had been done towards their union.
I encouraged her to retrace her steps in the Lord and ensure that they do the right thing by legalising their union and ensuring it is blessed by a minister. The next time I saw her, she was overjoyed and full of testimonies. To the glory of God, today, all is well with her home and to crown it all, she was expecting a child at that time.
Asides from having children, there are many blessings accrued to a proper, God-blessed marriage. One of them is that God’s hand is on your union, thereby attracting the favour He promises (Proverbs 8:35). So many people, even in churches today, co-habit. This is not only a sin, but it is shameful to engage in marital activities with someone you are not legally and “Christian-ly” married to. Many people suffer unduly because they have despised this path to glory and virtue in marriage. Some are even treated with disdain by their “in-laws”, because they don’t recognize and appreciate them as a part of the family.
The truth is: Marriage is honourable (Hebrews 13:4), but the honour comes with touring the right path. However, if you are in such an illegal union, all hope is not lost. You should make things right today by taking the necessary steps like the woman I have just told you about, to make that union right. Never make the mistake of counting the years you have stayed together as being married. Many years of errors do not equal correctness.
Therefore, with haste, consciously seek God’s face and then legalize that union with God’s blessing on it through a minister. You will not tour the path of shame again in the name of Jesus Christ!
